Carney’s Liberals abandon Israel
Hamas thanked Canada again last week for our statement condemning Israel alongside France and Britain.
I said it again, because this isn’t the first time that this banned terrorist organization has made public statements thanking Canada for its position.
This is utterly shameful.
“That hands a win to Iran’s proxies. Hamas just thanked Canada – again. So much for thinking Mark Carney would be any different – he’s not,” Conservative MP Deputy Leader Melisa Lantsman told us a week ago Tuesday.
She’s right, Mark Carney isn’t departing from Justin Trudeau’s stance on the war between Israel and Hamas. In fact, Carney, the supposed steady hand, the supposed adult in the room, is sliding Canada even closer to Hamas and away from our democratic ally, Israel.
As a country, we’re currently quite upset that our ally to the south , the United States, has seemingly turned on us. Yet, Canada since Oct. 7, 2023, has been turning on Israel, putting demands on it that we’ve never put on Hamas.
It’s almost like Canadians, or at least our Liberal government, whether led by Trudeau or Carney, don’t realize that eight Canadians were brutally murdered by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.
Israel is fighting for its very survival against a terrorist organization that launched a barbaric, unprovoked attack, slaughtering more than 1,200 people and kidnapping 250 others, many still held hostage. Yet, Carney’s Liberals, alongside their European counterparts, issued a communique last Tuesday condemning Israel’s military operations while barely mentioning Hamas’ role in starting this war.
In fact, Hamas is only mentioned twice in the communique, and while the leaders do call for the release of the remaining hostages, most of the communique is about Israel laying down its weapons , not Hamas.
“We call on the Israeli government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza,” the communique reads.
Last week, Carney’s newly appointed foreign affairs minister, Anita Anand, accused Israel of using food as a political tool.
“Over 50,000 people have died as a result of the aggression caused against the Palestinian and the Gazan people in Palestine and using food as a political tool is simply unacceptable,” Anand said.
She went on to say, just like the communique from Canada, France and Britain, that she supports a two-state solution.
There is so much wrong with what she said, starting with the two-state solution. There can be no two-state solution when Gaza is controlled by Hamas, a terrorist organization that rejects the existence of Israel and that has promised to repeat Oct. 7th again and again until it wins.
Hamas doesn’t want peace, not now, not ever, but it did thank Canada for its stance.
Secondly, Israel has been allowing aid in and recently facilitated a massive delivery of aid, but unfortunately, much of the food and other supplies are captured and stolen by Hamas. The food meant to keep the civilian population alive is stolen, used to keep Hamas fighters well fed and the rest sold on the black market.
There is no mention of this from Anand or in the communique.
Hamas started this war; Hamas continues to prosecute this war and continues to refuse to surrender or release the hostages. If the remainder of the hostages were released tomorrow, dead or alive, Israel would likely stop its attacks.
But Hamas refuses.
In Khan Yunis, Palestinians march in the streets denouncing Hamas and calling for an end to its rule. In the streets of Canadian cites, supporters of Hamas march and glorify the martyrs, they honour “the resistance” and call on the Canadian government to denounce Israel.
Sadly, it seems, the Carney Liberal government is listening to the people on the streets of Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal rather than the people marching and risking their lives in Khan Yunis.
Canada deserves better than this, our democratic ally Israel, deserves better than this.
