WHAT THE BLAZES?

You can be antisemitic on campus, but don’t you dare smoke up

You can scream about the eradication of Jews from Israel all day on a Canadian university campus and no one will still stop you – but there are some rules that Canada’s highest halls of learning do enforce.

It’s so interesting that while one is not permitted to smoke cigarettes or marijuana on campus grounds, they can shine the greatest honour on those who savagely kill Jews.

A students group planned to do just this on the Mississauga U of T campus on Tuesday October 7th, the second anniversary of Hamas’ barbaric attack, which resulted in the slaying of 1,200 people on the Israel-Gaza border and the taking of 240 hostages.

The “honouring our martyrs” event commenced at the Student Centre in Mississauga while at York University, student groups are ringing in Oct. 7th with a call for Jewish students to be expelled.

“Your tax dollars fund celebrating the slaughter of Canadians among the many victims of Oct. 7th and they won’t even lay a finger to change that,” Conservative Deputy Leader Melissa Lantsman said.

These are not protests, but a spiking of the football to dance on the graves of Jews.

When University of Toronto students talk about “honouring our martyrs,” what they are really doing is revelling in the murders of innocent Jews and bestowing glory on those who did the gutless killing. While they risk fines for vaping or smoking a joint, there’s no penalty for their actions. There are no known rules for smoke canisters , however.

“Concerns have been raised about one student union event planned at the Mississauga campus,” a statement from a U of T spokesman said.

“We have met with the leaders of that independent student group to remind them of their obligation. UTM Campus Safety and Peel Regional Police have been in contact and are jointly working to access safety and prepare appropriately.

This kind of madness is also happening off campus.

One that jumps out in Toronto is the “730 Days of Rage, 2 years of ongoing genocide and 77 years of resistance” rally last Tuesday at Jurassic Park, outside where the Raptors play at Scotiabank Arena.

The police attended but serve more as concierges for the antisemetic crowd. They play babysitter every once in  a while when a hateful Jew hater gets way out of line, but they let most of it go.

The protesters are cowardly because their faces are hidden and they know Jewish counter –protesters or media will face more trouble for retaliating than Hamas supporters ever will for instigating problems.

Journalists are often attacked and there’s a shrug of the shoulders as if it was nothing. But everybody knows if anything like that was done to a police officer, there would be appropriate, endless outrage – much from the very reporters who have the police’s back, but don’t always get that in return.

You have to be brave and ready to be physically harmed and threatened when covering these celebratory events or spirited protests because the anti-Israel participants know they have a wide berth on what they can get away with, and know they are mostly above the law.

Fully masked up and in disguise, they can push you, threaten you, put umbrellas in your face and follow you around to prevent you from getting your story – and the police ignore it.

Of course, this is no knock on the individual officers of the Peel Regional and Toronto Police services, who merely follow the orders of their pro-Palestine political leaders. People can chant any antisemetic thing they want because they know nothing will be done about it.

The police have even delivered them coffee and they’ve handcuffed and arrested reporters and photographers trying to cover those fermenting hate.

The courts usually let the antisemetics off their charges even when police do get involved, and the cops end up saying, “why bother?” It’s easier to overlook the actual violators and pretend it’s a neutral game when it isn’t .

Hamas is the bad actor, and Israel is Canada’s ally and friend.

Hamas did the evil deed on innocent Israelis on Oct. 7th and continues to fire rockets. The propaganda about this war being a “genocide” inflicted on Gaza is merely a well-funded smear campaign, pushed by bullies and still being hurled even though there are efforts underway to try to bring an end to this war and bring peace there. As of this past Wednesday, a tentative deal has been struck to end the war and hostages, both Israeli and Hamas have been released from captivity.

“The government has given life  to all of the pro-Hamas, antisemetic groups to do whatever they want,” said Meir Weinstein of website Israel Now. “And that’s what they do.”

He’s right. Shut down the front of a train station? A major street corner? A prime minister’s black-tie gala? Barnstorm a restaurant or comedy club, bookstore or seminar? Vandalize a synagogue or shoot up your kids’ school, occupy a campus or even block ambulances?

Hamas supporters decide!

They, not the police, mayor, premier or prime minister call all the shots when they want to shut something down – and taxpayers shell out for all of the police overtime.

Hamas is in charge in Toronto, the GTA and all of Canada. Governments answer to them, not the other way around.

But on campus, while celebrators and demonstrators can be as antisemetic as they like, protestors don’t dare smoke because there’s a $1,000 fine for that.
