CANADA MUST STOP TOLERATING JIHADIST ACTIVITY

After the killing of 15 Jews on Bondi Beach in Sydney on the first night of Hanukkah, the Australian government proposed new gun controls.

But Australia doesn’t have a gun problem, at least not one that could have prevented this mass killing. After the Port Arthur massacre on Tasmania in 1996, Australia had already implemented some of the toughest gun controls in the Western world.

Instead what Australia has are antisemitism and jihadist problems.

Following this horrific event, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the two shooters, a father and son, were inspired by “Islamic State Ideology.” But did he propose a crackdown on Islamic extremism? Did he shut down websites responsible for the hateful anti-Jewish indoctrination of Muslims and others?

Nothing will improve until Western politicians get over their political correctness surrounding pro-Palestinian rallies, even those that promote violence and are often violent themselves, that block streets in front of churches to permit Muslim prayers or cheer radicals in their communities who firebomb and shoot at Jewish schools and places of worship.

Too often since the bloody Hamas execution of 1,200 Jews in Israel a little more than two years ago, authorities in Australia, Canada, Britain and elsewhere have turned a deaf ear to chants like “globalize the intifada” and “from the river to the sea.”

To a Western “progressive,” this might just sound like edgy, political rhetoric- something our free speech laws should tolerate.

But what happened on Bondi Beach is exactly what “globalize the intifada” looks like. It doesn’t mean take peaceful protests to the whole globe. It means take the fight against Jews and Israel – against the “Zionists” – to everywhere Jews live, work, gather and celebrate.

How could such a phrase not be antisemitic?

Similarly, with “from the river to the sea, Palestine shall be free.” That means not only shall Palestine be liberated from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, it means it will be free of Jews. Displace them. Kill them. As the slaughter in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 shows, the “how” doesn’t matter to the chanters.

That makes that  phrase antisemitic as well. But has the Canadian government arrested anyone for saying it, or even just come out and denounced it? Not a chance.

If anyone were advocating a Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific that was free of , say, Indigenous people, they would instantly and rightly be condemned as racist. The RCMP would probably start surveilling for evidence of Nazi propaganda and illegal weapons.

But Canada’s reaction, a lot like Australia’s, has been to condemn Israel’s war against Hamas as “genocide,” to call on both sides equally to cease hostilities and to threaten to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a war criminal if he ever touches down on Canadian soil.

Of course, Canada and most other Western nations recognized Palestinian statehood in September before a functioning Palestinian state truly exists. No rule of law, no democratic institutions , not even a functioning justice system.
