We can’t let Toronto’s municipal leaders use climate change as a get out of free jail card when it comes to last Tuesday’s flooding.
In some ways, they’re already trying to do that to deflect blame from their lack of action to ensure our infrastructure is up to the job.
“Climate change is real,” Mayor Olivia Chow said to reporters while reacting to the storm. “We really seriously have to deal with climate change.”
Chow said the city is expecting the number of severe rainstorms to double in the next 15 years.

July is here with our 103rd edition of the MBE Business Magazine.
As we wave goodbye to the month of June, July enters and to all the pessimists out there, closer to the end of summer. June was the usual pot luck of weather. Seasonal temperatures for the most part, but what was missing was the run of sunny days that we have always counted on. For every few good days of bright sunshine we had, clouds and rain were never
far off. Let’s hope that July brings with it, bright sunshine with above average temperatures mixed in with the occasional heat wave. Enjoy the weather while you can cause before you know it, summer will be a distant memory.
Some important days for the month of July are as follows:
Monday June 1, is Canada Day. It marks the moment in history when Canada became an independent nation. It is a public statutory holiday observed by all provincial governments. Canada Day was formerly known as Dominion Day, and it is also the national day of Canada. This holiday celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1867, when the United Canada’s, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick colonies were merged under the British North America Act to form a unified dominion known as Canada inside the British Empire.
Sunday June 7th marks the beginning of Muharram. Muharram marks the start of the Islamic Calendar followed by Muslims all over the world or Islamic New Year. The celebration will continue for 10 days and end on July 17 or Ashura. The word ‘Muharram’ means forbidden or sinful. This is because violence and bloodshed is forbidden during this period.
Saturday July 20th is the Moon Landing Anniversary. It will always be known as one of the most iconic dates in history, as it is the day that Man first landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin along with Michael Collins, were the astronauts on the crew of the Apollo 11 Space Mission, and the first humans to land on the moon. The flight originated from the
Kennedy Space Center on July 16th, entering the Moon’s orbit on the 19th and the next day, Armstrong and Aldrin navigated the lunar module Eagle to descend into the moon’s surface.
After landing, Armstrong took the first-ever human steps on the moon, and said his now widely famous quote “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for “humankind.”
